A Taste of Travelers Rest

Upcountry Provisions

TR Food Guide

Get your day started on the right note with a sweet or savory crêpe from Tandem Crêperie & Coffeehouse. Husband-and-wife duo Kristen and Brad Harman are the owners and masterminds behind this community favorite located on the corner of Main and Center Streets. Not far down the road is Upcountry Provisions, another great place to snag a breakfast sandwich (on the best house-made focaccia), a hearty and wholesome frittata, or a freshly baked pastry.

The Whistle Stop at the American Cafe

For lunch, The Whistle Stop at the American Cafe is a can’t-miss establishment. It originally opened as a café in 1945 and has stayed in the family ever since, currently run by third-generation owner Vickie Hawkins. Hawkins fosters a welcoming atmosphere—she’s on a first-name basis with just about every customer—caring for patrons by keeping them full and satisfied with Southern staples like fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits and homemade desserts like Aunt Kathleen’s Key Lime Pie.

Farmhouse Tacos

There are plenty more delicious lunch options to choose from. Priding itself on sourcing local produce and meat from nearby farms whenever possible, Farmhouse Tacos ups the ante from your traditional taqueria with flavor-packed favorites like the Alabama Street Taco and Farmhouse Buttermilk Fried Chicken Taco. For a quick slice or some finger-lickin’ barbecue, pop into Sidewall Pizza Company or Monkey Wrench Smokehouse, both owned by Andy O’Mara and Loren Frant.
