Sweet Tea Manhattans
Makes about 5 cups

  1. 1 orange
  2. 1 cup water
  3. 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  4. 2 cinnamon sticks
  5. 2 black tea bags
  6. 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  7. 2 1/2 cups rye whiskey
  8. 1 cup sweet vermouth
  9. 14 dashes Angostura bitter
  10. Maraschino cherries
  1. Using a vegetable peeler, remove rind from orange, and place in a small saucepan. Add 1 cup water and next 3 ingredients. Bring to a boil over medium heat; reduce heat, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  2. Strain mixture into a pitcher, discarding solids. Stir in lemon juice, and refrigerate until cold. Stir in whiskey, vermouth, and bitters. Serve over ice, and top with cherries.
  1. This is slightly sweeter than a typical Manhattan, but it still packs a punch.
