Sweet-Salty Margaritas
Makes about 5 cups

  1. 1 cup water
  2. 2/3 cup sugar
  3. 1 tablespoon lime zest
  4. 2 cups white tequila
  5. 1 cup triple sec
  6. 1 cup fresh lime juice
  7. Sugar
  8. Salt
  9. Garnish: lime wedges
  1. In a small saucepan, bring 1 cup water, 2/3 cup sugar, and lime zestto a boil over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat, and let stand for 30 minutes. Strain mixture, discarding solids. Let cool completely.
  2. In a pitcher, stir together sugar syrup, tequila, triple sec, and lime juice.
  3. On a small plate, pour a small amount of tequila. On another small plate, combine desired amount of sugar and salt. Dip rim of glasses in tequila, then in sugar mixture.
  4. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, and add tequila mixture. Shake until very cold, and strain into glasses. Garnish with lime, if desired.
