You might hear avocados referred to as “alligator pears” because of their thick peel and pear-like shape. This bumpy-skinned, green-fleshed produce reaches its peak in springtime and contains a number of vitamins and healthy fats. It’s easy to remove the pit from avocados with these steps.
With a sharp knife, halve the avocado lengthwise, cutting carefully around the large, round pit at the center.

Twist open the halves to expose the pit. Using a sharp knife, carefully strike the pit with the knife blade.
Twist the knife to easily remove the pit.
Use a large spoon to scoop out the pulp from the peel.
