You might hear avocados referred to as “alligator pears” because of their thick peel and pear-like shape. This bumpy-skinned, green-fleshed produce reaches its peak in springtime and contains a number of vitamins and healthy fats. It’s easy to remove the pit from avocados with these steps. 

With a sharp knife, halve the avocado lengthwise, cutting carefully around the large, round pit at the center.
