Cut-Out Sugar Cookies with Edible Paint Icing

Cut-Out Sugar Cookies with Edible Paint Icing
  1. 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  2. 1 cup sugar
  3. 2 large eggs
  4. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  5. 1 teaspoon almond extract
  6. 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  7. 2 teaspoons baking powder
  8. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  9. Edible Paint Icing
  1. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar with an electric mixer until fluffy.
  2. Beat in eggs, vanilla, and almond extract.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to sugar mixture, beating until combined. Cover, and refrigerate dough for 1 hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a baking sheet.
  5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutters, and place 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes, or until edges are very lightly browned. Let cool for 2 minutes on baking sheet. Remove to wire racks to cool.
  6. Paint cookies with Edible Paint Icing, if desired.
